On choosing a side

The first night I slept over at Justin’s house he asked me what side of the bed I preferred. I tend to drift all over the bed when I sleep, so sides really don’t matter, I never end up in the same place I started.

Justin nodded and said he liked the side closer to the door, whatever works, right?

So I tend to sleep on the left side when I stay at Justin’s. When we stay at my house, I tend to sleep on the right side. Because it’s closer to the door and I would have to climb over Justin-and probably knee him in the groin-when my alarm went off.

When we talked about moving in together, Justin casually mentioned that he wanted to make the right his official “side” and that he can never really sleep peacefully at my house because he’s not on the side he prefers.

I never thought it would bother him so much that we switched. I mean, it’s just a side, right?

He can have that side, it doesn’t bother me either way. But I’m glad I am not the only one in the relationship with weird quirks.
